2013 World records!
Every year, hundreds of thousands of world record hopefuls do their best to become the most, the fastest, the farthest, the only and the longest of all the other 7,000,000,000 losers who aren't. Some of them have practiced their whole lives. Some have failed countless times before. Some are naturally endowed to be the best. They all share one thing: They are the only ones in the world who are what they are, or that can do what they do. As few know, we here at the Pin are the custodians of the only meaningful and true list of world records. Others attempt to tabulate all that is -est, but they are rarely privy to all that the Slippery Pin are. We have over 43 volumes of engraved slate stones of what is means to be the best, and, we are pleased to share with you the public highlights of this past year, 2013!
World's Oldest Almond
On November 28, 2012, a whole, unshelled almond became the world's oldest existing almond, and at the same time, the world's oldest existing nut. This record was held until Nov. 28, 2013, when the very same almond broke the previous record. The ancient drupe is owned by Mary Tuppence of Grumd, UK. Mr. Tuppence claims the almond has been with him through two wars, a divorce and one shipwreck. World's Newest Almond* World's Widest Feet Albert Fishstock, Oslo Norway, new from a young age that he was different. His feet were abnormally wide. Record hounds had been eying his feet with measuring taps in hand since he was 10 years old, but an accurate record would only be possible after the lad stopped growing. On October 10, 2013 both Albert's mother and his Podiatrist agreed that it was exceedingly unlikely that he would grow any more after puberty and the record was established. He is the only person on earth whose feet are wider than they are long. "I'm normal in ever other way. I have ten toes and everything- five on my left foot and three on my right," Albert said. He maintained that he did have at total of ten toes. Longest time facing one direction Aigi Ngobo has been continually facing southeast since he was 14 years old. Occasionally this causes challenges in Ngobo’s social life but, “it’s nothing that can’t be overcome with a smile and a kind gesture.” Adjustments in his day-to-day life must also be made. “My place of work is just north of here,” he says, “so I just walk backwards, and a little to the side too.” He has made a custom latrine for himself and made special sleeping arrangements. |
Largest Collection of ABC Gum
Zhenya Jovovich has over 10,000 individual pieces of gum that have already been chewed by other people. She started her collection in 1993 when chewing gum first came to Russia. “We only had one or two pieces per family,” she said, “if we wanted gum later we had to save it.” It quickly became her obsession. Since then she has collected gum from, Bill Clinton, Sporty Spice, Groucho Marx, and the Dali Lama. Flavours in her collection include: winter green, licorice, yam, squid ink, wasabi, gin, cinnamon, lamb, eucalyptus, and pure white latex. Deepest Bellybutton Skid Philips set the world record this year, which was previously held by himself, for the deepest bellybutton on earth. The American, a connoisseur of maple syrup, can distinguish between different maple forests and can even identify which tree contributed the most to the batch. We asked Philips about how he felt about breaking his own record: “Blu blu blup perp fup (burp) bluhn per derper fwuh . . .” Sadly, Mr. Philips died in mid sentence during our interview. In his honour, a special exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. will proudly display the deepest know navel. Most People Visiting the Slippery Pin at Once 1 Largest Head For the past 22 years, Lupe Zeragoza has had the largest head in the world. “If you imagine what the largest head in the world might look like, you would still be surprised when you saw this one,” she said. Lupe enjoys exploring the rugged mountains near her home in South America. It was on one of these hikes that she found the head. “It was so big it took us three days to get it down the mountain.” |
